Priest Danil Lugovoy, Rector of the Parish of St. Sergius of Radonezh from 2009

fotobgPriest Danil Lugovoy was born in 1976 in the city of Moscow in the USSR where he finished secondary school in 1994.

In 1994, enrolled at the Moscow Theological Seminary, which he completed in 1997.

From 1997 to 2001, he studied at the Moscow Theological Academy. In 2002 he was awarded a Masters Degree in Theology for successfully completing a thesis on the History of the Russian Orthodox Church with the theme: “History of the St. Sava Monastery in Zvenigorod”.

In 2001 he was ordained as a deacon in the St. Danilov monastery by the His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II.

From 2001 to 2002, he served as a deacon in the Holy Trinity Church in Moscow.

From 2001 to 2005, he taught Russian Orthodox Church History at the Russian Orthodox University of St. John the Theologian.

From 2002 to 2009, he taught Essential and Comparative Theology at the Orthodox Classical Gymnasium “Hovrino” in Moscow.

In 2004 he was ordained as a priest at Novo-Spassky monastery by His Eminence Archibishop of Orehovo-Zuevo Alexy.

From 2004 to 2009, he served as a priest in St. Catherine Church in the Moscow.

In 2009, following the resolution of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and of all Russia Cyril, was appointed as the Rector of the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Married, having two children.
