In the church of St.Sergius of Radonezh solemn Easter services were held. On the night of 11th to 12th April, current Rector of the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, Priest Danil Lugovoy, carried out an Easter Matins and Divine Liturgy, a procession preceded them, which was attended by numerous members of the congregation and guests of the church.
After communion, a letter with an Easter message was read on behalf of His Beatitude, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodore II. And after the conclusion of the service, a message from His Holiness, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill.
On Easter morning, parishioners of the church of St. Sergius visited the Jakaranda children’s home in Pretoria, where they congratulated children living in difficult circumstances, with the celebration of Easter according to the Orthodox calendar, and presented gifts.
On Sunday April 12th, Easter Vespers were also carried out, after which a small feast was prepared jointly by all who came to share in the joy of Easter.
Before the start of celebrations and feast after Easter a presentation of the animated film «The Gospel Parable», created by the Sunday school of the church. The cartoon was based on children’s drawings. The text was voiced by students of the Sunday school. Participation in the creation of the cartoon helped them get to know the Word of God, to build confidence in learning and successfully using the Russian language. After the viewing of the cartoon, all participants were provided with Easter gifts.
On the lawn in front of the church, the parents of the students attending Sunday school organised competitions for all children present, with sweets as delicious prizes.
A celebratory exhibition was prepared in the welcome centre, where pre-revolutionary Russian Easter greeting cards were on show.
