Meeting of Archbishop Mark with Russian-speaking community in Cape Town

cape-comp-2Archbishop of Yegoryevsk Mark held a meeting with Russian-speaking community in Cape Town on Friday October, 4.

Before the meeting the exhibition “Holy Russia” by photographer Vladimir Hodakov was opened. Priest Daniel Lugovoi delivered a brief speech about the author, the events and people portrayed by the art photographer.

After joint prayer Archbishop Mark as Head of Moscow Patriarchate Department for foreign institutions presented opening remarks, where he told the audience about the work of the Department. He also described the peculiarities of everyday life of Russian Orthodox Church overseas parishes.

Then His Eminence was asked many questions. Orthodox Capetonians were interested in contemporary position of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia, issues of spiritual life, the possibility of opening the Russian  parish in Cape Town.

Archbishop called to actively attend services, which are held in Cape Town by the Rector of the Church of st . Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg  Priest Daniel Lugovoi, to create a local choir, to take care of personal  development and deepening of the spiritual life, and to strive to grow intellectually. Also to learn as much as possible about the Orthodox faith, using  modern technology.

As acknowledgement of his assiduous work for the good of the Church of Christ, Archbishop Mark awarded Pavel Viktorovich Klimashev  with a  medal of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

After the talk, the conversation continued during a meal prepared jointly by all the participants.

The meeting was attended by over 60 people, including  Consul General of Russian Federation in Cape Town Vyacheslav I. Levin.
