Panikhida for those who died during the Second World War
On the 26 June 2010, a panikhida was held in the parish church of St Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg for those soldiers, who gave their lives for their faith and nation during the Second World War, which began in June 69 years ago.
Attending the panikhida were the Russian Federation Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to South Africa, А.А. Makarov, the staff of the Russian Embassy, as well as parishioner Valentin Pavlovich Arinin, a veteran of the Second World War.
Parishioner Denis Cooper, whose father also took part in the Second World War, compiled a photo exhibition about the terrible war years and the extraordinary feats of all who had to defend the homeland against fascism. He compiled a book based on the photo exhibition, copies of which he donated to the Russian Federation Ambassador as well as to Arinin, the only Russian veteran living in southern Africa.
