Service in Cape Town

On Saturday, January 23rd, one day of the celebrations of the Baptism of Our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ (Epiphany Day) and in the memory of St. Theophanes, rector of the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, Archpriest Danil Lugovoy carried out the Divine Liturgy in the church of St. Raphael in Cape Town. He was joined by the newly ordained Deacon Nicholas Esterhuizen.

After the service all the worshipers were able to take the baptismal water, which was brought by the rector of the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg.

During the liturgy prayed many Orthodox residents of Cape Town, as well as the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town, Roman Evgenievich Ambarov.

Present at the service were participants of a motor expedition “Around the world on the meridian”. One of the objectives of the expedition is to visit the parishes of the Orthodox Alexandrian Church  in order to strengthen inter-church informal communications, as well as to draw public attention to the issue of the position of Christians in Africa. They donated to the Orthodox community of Cape Town: icon of the Mother of God and the image of the Holy Cross.

Traditionally a tea was held after the service to talk about the Orthodox faith.
