Service in Namibia

On March 14, the first Soul Saturday of Great Lent, Archpriest Daniil Lugovoi, commemorating the departed and the holy Martyr Evdokia, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.

The Charles Lwanga Major Catholic Seminary graciously provided its chapel for worship and their adjoining hall for tea after the service.

Before the service began, the chapel was decorated with Orthodox icons and flowers.

This was the first time that a choir, comprised of the Orthodox community in Windhoek and established recently, chanted the liturgy. The service was exceptional due to their active rehearsals and thoughtful preparation. Prayers sounded not only in Church Slavonic, but in Greek and English. After the Liturgy, a memorial litany was served.

Afterwards, the community gathered in the dining room of the seminary to drink tea and share a lenten meal. People talked to each other, shared news, discussed vital issues of Christian life, and the future development of the Russian-speaking community of Windhoek.
