On Holy Saturday, 26 April, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, the superior of the parishes of the South African Diocese in South Africa, rector of the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg and interim rector of the parish of the Archangel of God Michael in Lusaka, celebrated his first divine service in a house church in the capital of Zambia.
Over the course of two months, repair and preparatory work was carried out in the building recently handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church. The area was cleared and prepared for the upcoming first service.
On the last day of Holy Week, compatriots and employees of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Zambia gathered to glorify the Risen Saviour.
Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy celebrated the Divine Liturgy. An Easter procession was held.
The service was followed by a talk with the congregation. Further plans to put the building in order were discussed, and the next date of the service was scheduled.
The day before, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, at the invitation of Svetlana Kovaleva, Representative of Rossotrudnichestvo and Head of the Russian House in Zambia, met with applicants and Zambians who had already entered Russian universities.
An interesting and lively conversation took place. The young people asked many questions about the Orthodox faith, the teachings and traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church. They are to study in Russia. The knowledge gained during the conversation will certainly help them in understanding Russian culture, history and traditions.
