On Saturday 27 January, members of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation visited the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg as part of a working trip to the African continent.
Ilya Chechelnitsky, First Deputy Chief of Staff, Vyacheslav Tolmachev, Head of the International Department, and their accompanying staff were met by Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi.
The rector of the church told the guests about the life of the parish, the revered shrines of the church, and the pressing issues of the Orthodox community in the south of the African continent. There was a discussion of possible co-operation between the Commissioner for Human Rights and parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in assisting compatriots in difficult circumstances and protecting their rights.
