On 8-9 October 2022 in the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, celebrations were held on the occasion of the Throne Feast. According to a long-standing tradition, the celebration of the feast day of St. Sergius of Radonezh was moved from 8 October to the nearest Sunday.
On Saturday 8 October, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy, rector of the church, celebrated the All-Night Vigil.
On Sunday 9 October the rector of the parish celebrated the Divine Liturgy. At the end of the Divine Liturgy a procession took place. Parishioners with roundels and icons solemnly went round the church with singing. The message of Metropolitan Leonid of Klin, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, was read out. His Eminence in his address congratulated the rector and parishioners on the feast of the throne and wished everyone spiritual joy in the Lord, good health and God's all-strengthening help in their labours and achievements.
Then a festive concert was held in front of the parish centre, against the background of beautiful photographs from the ancient city of Suzdal. Students from the Embassy of the Russian Federation school and Sunday school performed. Poems and songs were sung. Young parishioner Anastasia performed a folk song melody on the flute. The parish choir under the direction of Angelina Davtyan sang an ancient cantata about the Venerable Sergius. The schoolchildren prepared a beautiful performance in colourful Russian folk costumes with playing on wooden spoons.
Then there was a common meal in the building of the parish centre, inside which were placed reproductions of paintings by Russian artists dedicated to the life of the heavenly patron saint of the parish.
The celebrations were attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation I.I. Rogachev, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Serbia Katarina Tomic, numerous parishioners and guests of the Sergievsky parish.
