On Saturday, 7 September, as part of the Days of Russian Spiritual Culture in South Africa, a master class in animation was held at the parish centre of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg. The event was organised by the Soyuzmultfilm studio, with the support of ANO Russian Seasons, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and the Russian Embassy in South Africa.
For almost 90 years of its existence, the Soyuzmultfilm studio has created more than 1,500 cartoons in various genres and artistic techniques. Many of them entered the "golden fund" of world animation and were honoured with more than four hundred international prizes and awards.
The masterclass was conducted in Russian and English. It was attended by students from the Russian Embassy school, Sunday school, and children from an orphanage near the church.
After the children had tried their hand at creating animations, a cartoon show was organised for them and refreshments were offered.
At the end, colourful certificates were presented to each participant.
