On August 27–28, 2026, festive services were held in the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God and the Ever-Virgin Mary.
On the eve of the holiday, on the evening of August 27, a vigil was held in the cathedral, during which the Shroud of the Most Holy Theotokos was carried out and the ceremony of its burial was performed. During the service, a procession took place around the temple, during which the clergy and parishioners solemnly carried the Shroud depicting the Mother of God lying on the burial cloth.
On August 28, on the very day of the holiday, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the cathedral.
The Feast of the Assumption reminds believers of the completion of the Virgin Mary’s earthly life and her transition to eternal life. For Christians, this is not a day of mourning but a celebration of hope and joy, testifying to Christ’s victory over death and the Mother of God’s unceasing prayerful intercession for the whole world.
