On 19 August 2026, on the feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ, Archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, rector of the Cathedral of St Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, celebrated matins and the Divine Liturgy.
Deacon Stephen Hayes concelebrated with the rector of the parish.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, in accordance with the ancient church tradition of the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the blessing of the fruit brought to the church by the worshippers took place.
Addressing the gathering, Father Daniil congratulated everyone on the feast day and called for the active transformation of their lives in Christ, for an ascent to God through prayer and the fulfilment of the Gospel. He wished that the life of each person might be illuminated by the Divine light and the grace of the Saviour, revealed on Mount Tabor.
Following the service, the funeral service was held for Valeria, a long-standing parishioner of the cathedral.
