On 5 April, the parish centre of the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg hosted the annual Total Dictant educational event. This event brought together parishioners, compatriots, guests of the parish, and South African citizens studying Russian who wished to test and improve their knowledge of the Russian language.
The main dictator was Larisa Alexandrovna Saenko, a teacher of Russian language and literature at the Embassy School, and Irina Grigorievna Lynova, a teacher of Russian as a foreign language, acted as the TruD Test coordinator. The participants of the event had a unique opportunity not only to assess their knowledge, but also to be inspired for further language learning.
"Total Dictant" was held with the support of the Russian Embassy, the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office and the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots' Organisations in South Africa, which underlines the importance and relevance of the event for the Russian-speaking community in the region.
The Total Dictant campaign is held annually around the world and is part of a global initiative to maintain and develop the Russian language among Russian speakers abroad. Participation in such events helps strengthen cultural ties and maintain linguistic identity among compatriots.
We thank all the participants and organisers for their contribution to the development of Russian culture and education in South Africa and hope to see more participants next year.
