On 11 May 2025, in the Week of the 4th Easter, the Week of the Relieved, after the end of the divine service on the territory of the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh, events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War were held, organised by the Russian Embassy in South Africa with the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Pretoria and the parish of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg.
Vladimir Olegovich Yakovlev, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Russia, and Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, Primate of the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of South Africa in South Africa, welcomed the audience.
The Immortal Regiment marched through the cathedral. Children and adults carried portraits of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War.
Immediately after the procession, a festive concert was held, in which both children and adults took part. Songs of the war years were performed and a colourful play was presented.
The day ended with a shared meal, over which joyful festive fellowship continued.
Numerous parishioners and guests of the parish took part in the celebrations.
