On Saturday, 9 May 2026, the Dean of the Cathedral, Archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, celebrated the Divine Liturgy. Afterwards, in the chapel named after Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir, a thanksgiving moleben was offered to the Lord God for granting Victory in the Great Patriotic War and a memorial service for «our leaders and warriors who laid down their lives on the battlefield, who perished from wounds and hunger, who were innocently tortured and killed in captivity and harsh labour, and all who laboured for the sake of Victory.».
The following day, Sunday, May 10th, after the end of the service, events dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place on the grounds of the Sergiy Radonezhsky Cathedral. These events were organised by the Russian Embassy in South Africa with the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office in Pretoria and the parish of Sergiy Radonezhsky in Johannesburg.
The gathering was welcomed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to South Africa, R.E. Ambarov, and the Dean of the parishes of the South African diocese in South Africa, Rector of the Cathedral, Archpriest Daniil Lugovoy.
A festive concert was held, featuring pupils and teachers from the school at the Russian Embassy in Pretoria, as well as Russian compatriots. Songs from the war years and classical musical pieces were performed, and the audience was delighted by vibrant dance numbers.
The Immortal Regiment marched through the cathedral. Children and adults carried portraits of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War.
The celebration concluded with a communal meal, after which the joyful festive conversation continued.
Numerous parishioners and guests of the parish took part in the celebrations.
