On Christmas night, from 6 to 7 January, solemn festive services were held in the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg. Matins and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated by Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, dean of the parishes of the South African Diocese in South Africa and rector of St Sergius Parish.
Parishioners from Pretoria and Johannesburg gathered to celebrate the birth of Christ the Saviour.
At the end of the service, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi read the Christmas messages of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Constantine of Cairo and North Africa, temporarily governing the Diocese of South Africa.
All were then invited to a festive meal in the parish refectory.
