On 2 November 2025, the 21st Sunday after Pentecost, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Church of St. John of the Ladder in Cape Town.
The service was led by Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, rector of the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, dean of the parishes in South Africa, accompanied by Priest Nicholas Esterhuizen, rector of the parish of St. John of the Ladder, Priest Jacob Smuts , rector of the parish of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Deacon Isaac Sifuba.
The service was conducted in Afrikaans, English, French, German, Shona and Church Slavonic.
After the service, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy welcomed all those gathered, thanked Priest Nicholas for the opportunity for the congregational prayer on this day and donated to the parish a liturgical gospel published by the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
This was followed by a parish tea party during which those gathered discussed practical issues of church life in Cape Town.
On the eve, on Dmitrievskaya Memorial Saturday, 1 November, a funeral service and Great Vespers were celebrated.
