On Christmas night, from 6 to 7 January, solemn festive services were held in the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg: Matins and Divine Liturgy.
Parishioners from Pretoria and Johannesburg gathered to celebrate the birth of Christ the Saviour.
At the end of the service, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoi, rector of the Cathedral, read out the Christmas messages of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Metropolitan Constantine of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa.
All were then invited to a festive meal in the parish refectory.
On the eve of the feast, Christmas Eve, the parishioners decorated the church with flowers and pine branches. Above the analogue with the icon of the Nativity of Christ, a creche was built to symbolise the cave of Bethlehem, where the Christ Child was born.
