
24 July 2025 in Moscow took place meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The members of the Synod had a decision on the titulisation of the bishops of the dioceses of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa (journal No. 84).
The Synod decided that the ruling bishop of the North African Diocese should have the title "of Cairo and North Africa". The ruling bishop of the Diocese of South Africa was given the title "of Johannesburg and South Africa".
The Synod decided that Metropolitan Constantine of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, should be the ruling bishop of Cairo and North Africa.
The temporary administration of the South African Diocese shall remain with the Metropolitan of Cairo and North Africa, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa.
In view of all the above, at the divine service in the Cathedral of St Sergius of Radonezh we will commemorate our ruling bishop Metropolitan Constantine, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, as Metropolitan of Johannesburg and South Africa.
