On Saturday, 4 July, the Parish Centre of St Sergius of Radonezh Cathedral hosted the first lesson of a new Russian language course for children.
The programme is intended for children for whom Russian is their native or one of their native languages. The classes will help them develop their language skills, maintain a connection with Russian culture and spiritual traditions, and also make new friends.
In addition to Russian language lessons, participants can expect creative workshops, cultural and educational meetings, and joint events. The programme is expected to run until November of this year.
The project is being implemented at the parish of St Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg in conjunction with Tyumen State University, Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, and the University of South Africa - UNISA.
The project's aim is to support the Russian language and culture abroad, as well as to develop humanitarian and educational cooperation between Russia and South Africa.
The first lesson was a good start to a new educational phase, which, we hope, will be beneficial for Russian-speaking families and help children maintain their love for the Russian language and culture.
